Another Look At The Matrice 200 Series

The new Matrice 200 Series, is it the best yet from DJI?

There are always a lot of opinions surrounding DJI. Most agree that they are dominating the industry and constantly work to develop the most innovative flight technology. With each new product launch, they are putting more distance between them and the competition. In typical DJI fashion, this past Sunday they launched the highly anticipated Matrices M200 series.

We saw this same pattern with the Phantom 4 Pro, Mavic, and the Inspire 2, so the M200 Series was no different.

Quick Overview:

The Matrice 200 Series is made up of three models, M200, M210, M210 RTK.

  • Aircraft Size: 716mm x 220mm x 236mm
  • Aircraft Weight: 3.80 kg (about 8.38 lbs)
  • Operation Range: 7 km (about 4.35 miles)
  • Max Flight Time: 38 mins
  • Ingress Protection: IP43 Level
  • Max Payload Capacity: 2 kg (about 4.41 lbs)

Features:

The M200 Series is designed for enterprise users and is the ultimate system for industrial operations.

  • Weather and water resistant body, so you can fly in a wide range of environments.
  • Foldable body for quick and easy setup
  • High-performance motors
  • 17-inch Propellers
  • Dual-Battery power system, which heats battery, enabling the system to fly in sub-zero temperatures.
  • Obstacle avoidance sensors (forward, upward, and downward-facing).
  • Pilot View camera for first-person-view (FPV), which allows the pilot to easily maintain orientation even when the gimbal-mounted device is focused elsewhere.
  • Compatible with 4 payloads: X4S, X5S, XT thermal and Z30 zoom cameras,
  • DJI AirSense, which is an integrated ADS-B receiver designed to enhance airspace safety.
  • Traveling Case

Software Features:

The M200s are all compatible with the DJI GO 4 app and the new DJI Pilot Android app. The DJI Pilot app will be available once the M200 Series has begun shipment.

The DJI Pilot app is compatible with DJI FlightHub with the FlightHub being a game changer. It’s a web-based app that allows operators to remotely access and analyze the data collected without needing to even be on site.

This is ideal for users with multiple aircrafts flying in multiple locations. This is a tool could also potential change first response, with data centralized and readily available, responders could utilize the data for better faster decisions.

Models:

M200

The M200 is the base model of the Matrice 200 Series. The main difference is that it has a single, bottom-mounted, or downward facing, gimbal mount. Expansion capabilities, dual or top-mounted cameras are not available with this model.

M210

The M210 model features multiple payload configurations and universal expansion ports. The multiple payload configurations options include one single downward gimbal, single upward gimbal, and dual downward gimbals. The dual gimbal configuration unlocks 5 different combinations. This feature benefits those using their system for inspections because it allows for multiple views of the inspection. For example, using both thermal and zoom cameras.

The added expansion ports allow additional connectivity and power ports. The added power ports support third party sensors and accessories as well as future sensors. This means more options when it comes to accessories.

The M210 model also comes with DJI’s CrystalSky monitor for enhanced operations. Second or dual operator option are available with an optional second transmitter and second Crystal Sky.

M210 RTK

The only real difference between the M210 and the M210 RTK is the D-RTK, a high-precision navigation, and positioning system. The D-RTK gives users precision geo-referenced positioning with an accuracy measured in centimeters. Great mapping operations.

Applications:

  • Construction Site Mapping – Quickly obtain data to generate accurate 3d maps for progress tracking.
    • Solution: M210 RTK + X4S
  • Firefighting – Get a complete view of a dangerous situation with visual and thermal cameras.
    • Solution: M210 + Z30 + XT
  • Precision Agriculture – Combine visual and multispectral cameras for quicker crop scouting.
    • Solution: M210 + X4S + XT
  • Search and Rescue – Equipped with both an aerial zoom and thermal camera, first responders can now quickly locate missing people in remote areas and plan the safest approach path.
    • Solution: M210 + Z30 + XT
  • Inspection –
    • Bridge – With a top-mounted gimbal pilots can fully inspect bridges, allowing teams to adequately plan maintenance schedules, improving public safety and minimizing costs.
      • Solution: M210 + Z30
    • Offshore Rig – View inspections of offshore assets remotely to ensure site safety.
      • Solution: M210 RTK + X4S
    • Power Line – With improved reliability and precisions, inspectors are empowered to visualize extensive power line networks with unparalleled detail despite adverse conditions.
      • Solution: M210 RTK + Z30 + XT
    • Solar Panel  – Inspect panels with visual and thermal imagery in order to detect defects.
      • Solution: M210 + X4S + XT
    • Wind Turbine – With improved flight stability in windy conditions and a top-mounted gimbal, turbine inspectors can spot millimeter-sized damage on all parts of a turbine’s propellers.
      • Solution: M210 + Z30

    Hello,
While it’s always nice to see new products hit the market, Dji needs to step it up and develop something new and earth shattering. The matrice 200 looks nice but doesn’t really boast anything groundbreaking. I have been building drones for years now with upto 4 and various sensors. It would be nice to see products that are expandable and that don’t become legacy shortly after release.
